Oh Yeah, I've Been Releasing Things [April 15, 2013]

In February, I released my latest game, Revive. It's on the Games Smorgasbord page if you want to check it out. I'm rather proud of it, and I have a lot to say about it, which is why the description for the game is so long.

In March, I made an animation for the Versus channel on YouTube: "Versus Animated: Josh is a Clam". The purpose of Versus Animated is to take the audio from notable moments from the Versus channel's competitive gaming videos and make them into short, moving cartoons. I am among the four animators officially making these animations for the channel, and it's a lot of fun. I also made a super short animation making fun of the Harlem Shake because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

This month, another Versus Animated video went up: "Versus Animated: Tyler is Barney the Dinosaur". When enough of these are made, I will probably add a subsection to the Animations page for them.

For Christmas last year, I published a random video to YouTube called Dokney Knog Goes to Christmas, and yesterday, it got its sequel, Dokney Knog Goes To College. They're both spontaneous, short, silly, and strange. I like them pretty well and will definitely be adding them to JonBro.com when I have more time.

Today, I wrote a tangent about why I don't talk about my future games much, now on the Jon's Tangents page. I may eventually give the tangents their own section on the site, because right now, it's just tucked into the Miscellaneous section and I think they ought to be noticed more. I know I'm speculating a lot about how I ought to change my site, but I'm only really speculating because I can't make the changes just yet.

I think that's it. I'll have to get back to doing schoolwork now. Until next time...

The Beginning of a New Year, Announcement of Next Game [January 7, 2013]

Well, it's not done yet, but it's guaranteed to be finished at some point, so I shall announce here and now that my next project will be [Revive], a 'spiritual sequel' to the memorable but mediocre [Respawn]. I teased the main theme of the game on YouTube if you want to listen to it. You can also check out the progress page which I'm not sure if I'll update again before the game is out. We'll see.

But please, keep in mind that even though the game is nearing completion, that doesn't necessarily mean it will be out anytime soon. I don't have as much free time to devote to game development as I'd like, and even after a game is complete, it sometimes has to undergo an additional long process to ensure that it is suited for release all across the web.

The following year is sure to be a busy one, although more of my focus will likely need to be directed towards my last year of high school than my whatever next Internet Flash games are going to be. I have a life just like anyone else, and that's a curse for someone like me who knows very well that he could do great things if he was not bound to the needlessly long-lasting education system. I don't think I'll want to "stay in school" any longer when this year is over with, to tell you the truth.

Thankfully, just because my school brain has to be kicked into high gear, that doesn't mean my artistic brain has been turned off, and I've come up with quite a few potential Flash game ideas for this upcoming year. Whether or not any of them will come to fruition, I don't know at this point, which is why I will put off saying anything more about them until I know what the details are. One thing's for sure, though: I will be doing a whole lot of experimenting with mediums I'm not immensely familiar with.

I can happily say this is the first year I've ever bothered making any real New Year's resolutions. I'm eager to find out what 2013 holds.

New Tangent, Also Game News [November 25, 2012]

I've added a new tangent to the Jon's Tangents page about the multitude of dark, ungrateful messages I've recieved about Riddle Transfer's cancellation--which is a subject I'm tired of, but also one that will probably keep popping up in my daily life until I drop dead one day. (Obviously the tangent isn't particularly lighthearted.)

Over Thanksgiving break, I saw Wreck-It Ralph in theaters. After being ever so slightly disappointed by Pixar's Brave and being more or less blown away by this new video game-centered animated feature by Disney, it made me wonder if Disney's and Pixar's animation departments suddenly switched places.

As for my current Flash project, I'll reveal that it is a game that takes from one of my previous works. It could easily be mistaken as a sequel, but I prefer to think of it as a spiritual sequel, since it's more like a reimagining of something I've made in the past--the story takes place in a separate world, the gameplay has been redone and enhanced, and the atmosphere is moderately different from what I'm used to.

The Future Holds Rants and Freshly-Paved Games [November 13, 2012]

I've just added a new page to the Miscellaneous section, which I intend to update whenever I feel like it.

I call it Jon's Tangents, and it's basically going to feature big rants I make from time to time, mostly about things I'm passionate about, probably. I'm hoping this section eventually becomes a nice tall stack of interesting reading material, and with luck, maybe it'll even inspire some people.

That said, I'm working on a few new games at the moment. I'm not going to mention anything about them, including their release dates, until they're near completion, but the one I'm currently spending the most time on, I'm feeling really good about.

Done Some Rewiring [November 5, 2012]

My website layout hadn't worked well on all browsers, laptops, or mobile devices, so I spent a couple of days laying it out differently to make it more accessible. I think the site feels a lot more "open" now, which is a good thing. The content is still the same, just (hopefully) nicer-looking and nicer-feeling.

Riddle School Series Deleted [October 25, 2012]

I deleted the Riddle School series, as seen here.

About Me/FAQ page, Let's Plays Resumed [October 2, 2012]

I got around to making that About Me/Frequently Asked Questions page in the Miscellaneous section, complete with a bunch of useless facts and what I think is a fairly accurate caricature of myself. All sorts of things have been going on in my life lately that have delayed my progress on just about anything, so if you want to hear about any of that, most of it is explained in the first part of my Horror Land playthrough in my Mario Party 2 Let's Play, which has just been brought back again and is gradually nearing its end.

The future seems bright. Good things are happening, and hopefully the ideas in my head will see the light of day with gusto and such. I don't know.

New Game's Work-In-Progress Page [September 9, 2012]

If you aren't sure what the big green pixelated image on the right means yet, it means I am currently working on a new game with the working title Project Reflect, and you can view its progress page here.

It's likely that I'll be updating that page more than the main page of this site, so if you're interested in hearing more about this game, you might want to Bookmark it and check back on it from time to time for new little messages that will probably seem pretty trivial for the most part until things start picking up.

Great News, Not-So-Great News, and Greater News [August 28, 2012]

I've redesigned my website nine times, each time expecting to come up with a design I'm happy with. This time is different, especially since most of it isn't made in Flash, which means updating the site won't be a slow and agonizing process. Basically, this means I'm far more likely to update my site on a regular (or at least semi-regular) basis than ever before.

The actual appearance of the site is based on my very first redesign. You can view that, along with all of my other past layouts, in the brand-new Miscellaneous section. As you would guess, the Miscellaneous section will be where everything goes that doesn't fit into any of the other sections of the site. One of the other happy new sections is the Links section, which contains websites you can contact me on, along with links to a bunch of other random stuff.

Probably the biggest recent news that I haven't gone over is that I've cancelled the remainder of the Riddle Transfer series. I know that's a disappointment to a lot of people, myself included, and it was really a hard choice for me to make, but I have good reasons for my decision. Read more about the cancellation here. You can also see the discarded plans for the rest of the series here. No worries, though--I am working on brand new things, such as the thing in the image on the right.

I don't have any plans to make any more point-and-click adventure games, but a number of people asked to see me make a tutorial explaining how I made the Riddle School games, so I made a point-and-click game tutorial basically explaining how I made Riddle School 2 using ActionScript 2.0.

Also, I'm still making Let's Plays, as indicated by the Let's Plays section on the navigation bar above. I just started playthroughs of Mario Party 2 and Metroid Prime. So, those exist.

I'm guessing future updates to this site won't usually be as long as this, but at least they won't only happen just twice a year anymore. Hopefully you like this redesign as much as I personally do. Have fun exploring it and finding things you're sure not to have seen before!

Working On Stuff [February 14, 2012]

Haven't updated this news thing in about six months. Anyways... I've been making Let's Plays. And I've been working on Flash stuff, too, but that just takes longer. There's a game and a movie.

That's about it.

New Hobby [August 15, 2011]

Or "additional hobby", I should say. I've taken up the art of Let's Playing. In other words, I've been recording myself playing a video game while speaking my mind, offering insight about what I'm playing and talking about totally irrelevant matters.

Whether you're interested in Nintendo games, in seeing a guide, or just in hearing what my voice sounds like, check out my Banjo-Kazooie LP in the new Let's Plays section. (It's permanently replaced the Reviews and Rants section because I never updated it, and LPs are essentially both reviews and rants at the same time!)

That's about it.
